One dead after crash at 256th Street and U.S. 31

UPDATE – A Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office crash report indicates a 2008 maroon Dodge Avenger driven by Luz Tavarez, 44, Walton, Ind., was northbound on U.S. 31 between 256th and 266th streets when it crossed the center median into southbound traffic.

The Avenger collided with a white 2006 GMC Savanna van driven by Tracy Stewart, 30, Indianapolis, impacting the car on the driver’s side.

Tavarez was trapped inside the car as a result of the crash. Medics from the Jackson Township Fire Dept. pronounced her deceased at the scene. Stewart was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators said they are continuing work to determine a cause for the collision but believe road conditions created by the weather may have contributed to the crash.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a crash in northern Hamilton County has resulted in one death.

Deputies were dispatched to 256th Street and U.S. 31, the same intersection where Wilson Farm Market is located, at approximately 4:35 p.m. Dec. 29.

Police said a northbound vehicle crossed the median into southbound traffic and was was struck on the driver’s side.

Medics from Jackson Township Fire Dept. pronounced the driver deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the southbound vehicle that struck the northbound vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Investigators said they are still working to determine a cause for the crash, but that weather and road conditions may have played a part in the incident.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s office will identify the deceased once family notifications have been made.
