The company recently moved its headquarters from Old Meridian Street to Adams Street because of the need for a bigger on-site training and conference space.

Michael Rothenberger, president of the Indianapolis division of Home Care Assistance, said the trend of “aging in place” has been the demand of the current population of seniors. Home Care Assistance focuses on mental stimulation, sense of purpose, social interaction and nutrition for seniors.

According to the AARP report: Aging in Place: A State Survey of Livability Policies and Practices, nearly 90 percent of people older than 65 desire to stay in their own homes for as long as possible.

Rothenberger said the idea of launching a Home Care Assistance franchise in Carmel hit close to home. He said he witnessed his grandmother’s decline and transition into a nursing home after the passing of his grandfather and wanted to help offer people a better option.

The Rothenbergers moved from Fishers to South Carolina and then to Carmel in 2012 with their two children Madalyn, 9, and Griffin, 11, to launch Home Care Assistance.

Rothenberger said the idea to open a Home Care Assistance in Carmel came after periodic meetings with his pastor in South Carolina. Rothenberger said he wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but he was hoping to own a business that truly helped people. Rothenberger and his wife, Judy, started researching franchise opportunities throughout Indianapolis and discovered Home Care Assistance.

The new space was purchased with a loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration 504 program through Centier Bank and Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation, which helps owners of expanding Indiana businesses purchases real estate, buildings and equipment.

Home Care Assistance certified caregivers, home health assistants and certified nurse aides are specifically trained in assisting seniors inside the comfort of their own home. Home Care Assistance in Carmel employs 105 caregivers.
