The popularity of solar energy is increasing with homeowners around the nation. The Carmel Green Initiative will share the benefits of installing solar panels on homes and celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary April 28 through the Taste of Solar event.

Three homes on the east side of Carmel that have solar panels installed will be featured stops on a tour that will also include appetizers, sandwiches and desserts. Cindy Muse will share her experience with solar energy.

“We installed the rooftop solar panels through Green Alternatives in the fall,” Muse said. “Energy efficiency has been on my radar for a number of years. The only thing that was holding us back was that we needed a new roof. So, we did that and then we went ahead and installed the panels.”

Installers from Green Alternatives, Rectify and Jefferson Electric will be on hand at each site to discuss the details of solar installation.

“This event is to celebrate our 10th anniversary, but to also kick off Carmel Green Initiative’s Solarize Hamilton County 2018 initiative,” Muse said. “(Guests) can go to any, just one, two, or all three homes. All three houses are located in the 46033 zip code, so they’re fairly close together.”

Muse and her husband have seen the benefits of their new solar panels already.

“We’re just so excited because our electric bills have gone down to pretty much $10 to $15 per month,” Muse said. “Basically, our house is both gas and electric, so in the winter time unfortunately our heat is gas and our appliances are electric. We’re really looking forward to summertime because our air conditioning is electric. We want to see that significant difference there.”
