Zionsville Community High School’s bid to win its second consecutive state girls golf title might have fallen short, but the future looks bright.

The top-ranked Eagles placed second to Evansville North in the Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls Golf State Finals Sept. 28-29 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. Evansville North finished with a two-day total of 605 strokes, while Zionsville shot 612. The teams were tied after the first round.

“The kids played well,” Anderson said. “They’ve been a solid group all year. Evansville North just didn’t make any mistakes (in the final round).”

Pancake said although the scores were the same, her play was better in the final round.

“I was getting more consistent with my long game, I just didn’t make as many putts as I wanted,” she said. “We’re excited we’ve grown this program a lot in the past two years and we hope to keep going up.”

Anderson said next year looks promising.

“We had two kids (juniors Annabelle Pancake and Abby Thielbar) that made All-State again for the second year in a row,” ZCHS Coach Jeff Anderson said. “We have a sophomore, Lauren Kaltenmark, that is an amazing player as well. I look for the girls to come back and have another solid run next year.”
