School board candidate forum – The Carmel High School PTO will present a Carmel Clay Schools school board candidate forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Educational Services Center, 5201 E. Main St. Three school board positions will be on the ballot in the Nov. 6 election.

Learn about various faiths – Carmel Interfaith Alliance and the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Human Relations is co-sponsoring Meet Your Neighbor, a free forum to discuss faith traditions. The series is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings. Remaining meeting topics are: Oct. 25 – The Christian Faith; Nov. 1 – The Muslim Faith. Meetings will be held at Carmel City Hall.

Carnifall Festival – Market District, 11505 N. Illinois St. in Carmel, will host the third annual Carnifall Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 27. Children in costumes are invited to trick or treat throughout the store. Guests can enjoy a DJ, face painters, games, food samplings and more. Registration is not required. Safe trick-or-treating – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents of trick-or-treaters to check the Sex and Violent Offender Registry before ringing doorbells on Halloween night. Approximately 140 registered sex offenders live in the area. Residents are encouraged to check the registry to see if registered offenders live nearby. Access the registry through hamiltoncounty.in.gov/sheriff.

Trick or Treat event – Wellbrooke of Carmel, 12315 Pennsylvania St. in Carmel, will host a Trick or Treat Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25. Guests are invited to dress in costume to enjoy a live DJ, face painting and more at the free community event. Learn more by calling 317-569-7200.

Mini houses event – The Museum of Miniature Houses, 111 E. Main St. in Carmel, will host a free Celebrations of Creativity and Craftsmanship event at noon Oct. 24. Artist Philip Campbell will present carvings, paintings and quilts. Learn more at museumofminiatures.org.

School safety academy – The Parent School Safety Academy is an interactive program to teach parents of Carmel Clay Schools students school safety principles and fundamentals that guide responses. Campaign sign rules – As the election approaches, INDOT reminds Hoosiers that campaign signs are prohibited from state right-of-way. Areas that should remain clear include all intersections and interchanges. Where the right of way is not clearly marked, boundaries may be estimated as the fence line, the back of the ditch, or behind utility poles.

Shredding, electronics recycling event – An electronics recycling and shredding drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Creekside Middle School, 126th Street and Shelbourne Road. Shredding is $5 per box. Electronics recycling is free except for tube TVs and monitors, which are $10 each. Also accepted will be prescription drugs. Please no paints, light bulbs, tires, landscape waste, toxic or household hazardous waste.

Engineering opportunities for students – INDOT is offering civil engineering students scholarships and paid employment during summer breaks and upon graduation. Students must be accepted or enrolled full time in one of Indiana’s certified civil engineering schools and apply using the form at INDOTScholarship.IN.gov. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 31.

Reduced-cost cat adoptions—With a recent influx of cats over 1-year old, the Humane Society for Hamilton County will be offering $15 adoptions for these cats. The fee covers spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines, microchip, FIV/Feline Leukemia testing, a free wellness exam and a sample bag of Hill’s Science Diet food. The shelter is at 1721 Pleasant St., Noblesville, and is open from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Monday, noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and closed Wednesday. Special exhibit – The Museum of Miniature Houses presents the Founders’ Exhibit, celebrating the museum’s 25th anniversary. Houses and room boxes made by the co-founders will be on display, as well as historical artifacts of how Main Street looked 25 years ago, handwritten financial ledgers from the museum’s first years, and more. Exhibit runs through Jan. 6, 2019.

Tour de Cure – The American Diabetes Association presents Tour de Cure, a ride/run/walk event on Oct. 20 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Cost is $10. All riders, runners and walkers will be treated to lunch and a fantastic celebration party for all to enjoy. Voting for Indiana’s best – Voting is now open for the Best of Indiana State Parks, Best Museums and Best Burgers. Nominees for all three categories were recommended by members of Indiana’s travel, tourism and hospitality industry. To see the nominees and vote, go to VisitIndiana.com. Voting ends on Oct. 27.

Shredding event – The Carmel Clay Public Library will host a shredding day from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 in the employee parking lot. All shredding will be done on site and there is no limit to the number of documents you can have shredded for free. For more, call 317-844-3362.

Legislative internships – The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is offering paid spring-semester internships in its legislative, legal, policy, communications and information technology offices during the 2019 session of the Indiana General Assembly. Youth Leadership program open – United Way of Central Indiana is accepting applications for the 2019 Youth Leadership United Program. This program teaches high school students about the nonprofit sector and how to serve on a nonprofit board. High school freshmen, sophomores and juniors who live in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion or Morgan counties may apply. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31. Apply online at uwci.org/ylu.

Christmas Bazaar – The St. Augustine Guild 2345 W. 86th St., will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 2 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3. Items for sale will include holiday decorations, home décor, baked goods, gifts, and more. All proceeds benefit St. Augustine Home residences, which are cared for by Little Sisters of the Poor.

Asherwood Golf Course open – For a limited time this fall, golfers can enjoy the luxury of a private course experience while supporting a worthy cause. The Asherwood Estate Golf Courses of Carmel are open for play from now through Nov. 4, with proceeds benefiting the Great American Songbook Foundation. Tee times are available Tuesdays through Sundays in half-day or full-day packages starting at $1,500 per foursome, which includes a tax-deductible donation. Youth volunteer nominations sought – From now through Nov. 6. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is looking for Indiana’s top youth volunteers of the year. Students in grades 5-12 are invited to apply for 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the past 12 months. Civil War Roundtable – Bruce Alladadice will present “Obnoxious to a Free People –Conscription and the Civil War” at 7 p.m. at the Nov. 14 meeting of the Hamilton County Civil War Roundtable at Carmel City Hall, 1 Civic Square. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Passion worship service – Northview Church will host Passion Worship Night at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at its Carmel campus, 12900 Hazel Dell Pkwy. The evening will feature worship from Passion and teaching from Louie Giglio, with special guests Levi Lusko, author and pastor of Fresh Life Church, two time Grammy nominee Travis Greene, and hip-hop artist and author Trip Lee. Creative writers meetings – Carmel Creative Writers wants to give writers of all levels and genres the opportunity to network, learn and share. Ladies tea – Fellowship in Christ Church, 310 N. Range Line Rd., will host Coffee, Tea, and Thee for ladies from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. This is open to all women in the community and there is no cost to attend.

Hospital launches valet parking – Free valet parking is now available for patients and visitors at Indiana University Health North Hospital. The valet is stationed at the north entrance of the hospital. When drivers are ready to retrieve their car, they may text the valet team or stop by the valet stand. Valet parking is available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

BrightStar Care honored again – Carmel residents Jon Olson, president, and Jill Gilmer, director of operations, of BrightStar Care won the 2018 National Accounts Leadership Award at the BrightStar national conference in Chantilly, Va., Oct. 18. Corrections Officers needed – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for Correctional Officers at the Adult Jail and Women’s Annex. The Jail Division has implemented a new application/testing procedure. Interested applicants must register for a test date at empco.net/ind/ and specify test results be forwarded to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. After the test is complete, download and submit the Application for Corrections Officer at hamiltoncounty.in.gov/555/County-Jail. Deadline is Nov. 15.
