Boone County Council member, Elise Nieshalla, received the 2018 Outstanding County Council Member Award on Sept. 18 from the Association of Indiana Counties. Nieshalla began serving on the Boone County Council in 2017.

“I was asked to run and so I gave it serious consideration,” Nieshalla said. “I certainly spoke with my family and a wide swath of good folks that could speak to my life and came to the decision it could be a wonderful opportunity to give back.”

She represents the council on the Board of Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center. She is also on the Boone County Economic Development Corporation.

“I thoroughly enjoy this job of serving the citizens of Boone County because you get the opportunity to come to understand what’s really working well and certainly the strength of our county,”  Nieshalla said. “I enjoy working when issues arise that need to be addressed and then being able to be a part of a team. Everything you do on the council is a team effort of working with each other, working with constituents, with our municipalities, our schools and with other counties and states to address the needs that we have here locally. I’m grateful to get to partner with them on many items.”

Nieshalla was surprised to receive the award but is appreciative.

“I’m certainly humbled and honored to be chosen,” she said. “Again everything we do on the council is a team effort. And so there are so many people that are required to get good work done for Boone County, and it’s a real pleasure to get to partner with each and every one of them to see that happen.”

Nieshalla was a founding faculty member of the Hoosier Leadership Series Established in 2006. Prior to that, she served on the Economic Development Policy Team of then-gubernatorial Candidate Mitch Daniels.
