The fifth annual Path to Fitness 5K will be conducted at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at the Hancock Wellness Center, 8505 N. Clearview Dr., McCordsville.
The race is a fundraiser benefitting the Building a Brighter McCordsville Fund, which, when endowed, allows grants to be used for park activities and improvements in the Town of McCordsville.
Town manager Tonya Galbraith said grant funds can be used for things like providing Wi-Fi in parks, equipment purchases and land acquisition.
The race starts and ends at the Hancock Health and Wellness Center.
Galbraith said up to 130 people have participated in previous races. Town officials want to grow the number.
“It’s really fun,” She said. “We are just trying to really grow it, especially since it’s the fifth anniversary. We are trying to get neighborhoods or churches to form teams. A couple of years ago CalAtlantic home builder had a team.”
The 5K is free for kids 13 and under. There also will be a 1-mile fun run. Registration for the 5K is $25 and the fun run is $15. T-shirts are included.
“We want to see the kids participate,” Galbraith said. “The reason it’s called the Path to Fitness is the first year we did it was the first year we opened up the path on 600 West,” Galbraith said. “We wanted to get kids and adults out utilizing the path.”
Galbraith said the town is arranging to have vendors, bounce houses and a food truck.
“We are trying to liven it up since this is the fifth year,” she said.
