Where to go: Bay Area Bistro

City:  8395 E. 116th St., Fishers

What to get: Beef Steak

Price: $13.95

What to try: Beef Steak, $13.95 – Marinated with seasonings, then cooked and served on a sandwich or served paired with garlic rice and eggs. Beef is thinly sliced and super tender. The combination of flavors is vibrant with a piece of pineapple, onion, rice and egg.

Gourmet Shakes, $6.25 – The special shakes and drinks, like the “Halo Halo,” are why most people go to this restaurant. Most popular is the Leche Flan shake that Anthony Bourdain reviewed when the restaurant was in San Francisco.

Lolly Waffles, $5 – A mini waffle served on a stick. More of a dessert item but I’m sure some people would enjoy it as a meal, too. With flavors like maple bacon, churro, red velvet, s’mores, Fruity Pebbles and, my favorite, the Buco Panda, you have a lot to choose from. The texture is a mix between a waffle and a fresh cake donut.

Mike G’s take: If you are looking for traditional Filipino dishes with lots of flavor, then this is where you should go. In each of the dishes there are unique flavors based on the meat type, marinating seasonings used and how it is prepared. My favorite thing about the restaurant is the owner and chef take the time to talk and educate you on the items. The menu has many set items but also some that are switched out weekly based on the chef and customer preference.
