Altrusa Club anniversary – The Altrusa Club of Hamilton County will celebrate its 30th anniversary with dinner at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at The Old Spaghetti Factory, 918 Range Line Rd. in Carmel. Armed robbery – Two suspects stole cash and merchandise from the Village Pantry at 96th Street and College Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. Nov. 6 after holding the cashier at gunpoint. The cashier shot at the suspects, who fled on foot. The cashier was not injured. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Carmel Police Dept. at 317-571-2580.

Golf event raises $18,000 – From left, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Pastor Father Richard Doerr, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Charity Golf Event Co-Chairman Duane Hostetler, Merciful HELP Center Director Jayne Slaton and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Presiding Priest Father Gregory Hohnholt display a donation from the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral’s Charity Golf Event, which raised $9,000 each for the Merciful HELP Center and Holy Trinity Youth Ministries. Book drive – The Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites along with Liberty Mutual Insurance are conducting a children’s book drive through Dec. 13 to support the Child Life Program at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health North. Books may be dropped off in the hotel lobbies or main entrance of the Liberty Mutual office on Meridian Street.

Marathon championship – The Road Runners Club of America has awarded the Carmel Marathon the RRCA Central Region Marathon Championship for 2020. The marathon will take place during the Carmel Marathon Weekend on April 4, 2020, along with a half marathon, 10K, 5K and marathon relay. 2020 also marks the tenth anniversary of the event.

Recorder receives award – The Association of Indiana Counties announced that Hamilton County Recorder Jennifer Hayden received the 2019 Outstanding Recorder Award. The award recognized Hayden’s contributions made to county government throughout her years of public service. Surveyor elected VP – Hamilton County Surveyor Kenton Ward was elected second vice president of the Association of Indiana Counties Board of Directors. He began his term on Nov. 1.  Board elections were held during the AIC’s 61st Annual Conference in Orange County. Ward has served as the Hamilton County Surveyor more than 40 years. He is the past president of the County Surveyors Association of Indiana and the National Association of County Surveyors. He resides in Noblesville with his wife, Robin.

Veterans invited – Carmel High School, 520 E. Main St., will hold a Veterans Day convocation at 10 a.m. Nov. 11. The program includes patriotic music, speeches by students, veteran recognition and lunch for veterans in attendance. Veterans are asked to begin arriving at 9:30 a.m. to be seated prior to students entering.

Brooke’s Place breakfast – Brooke’s Place will hold its seventh annual Legacy of Hope breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Nov. 21 at the 502 East Event Centre in Carmel. At this no-cost event, guests can a hot breakfast while making a difference in the lives of bereaved youth. During the event, which coincides with National Children’s Grief Awareness Day, Brooke’s Place will mark its 20th year of providing grief support services to the youth of Central Indiana and celebrating the individuals who have helped along the way. Holiday bazaar – H.O.P.E., Inc., a Christian homeschool center, will present a holiday craft and gift bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at First Baptist Church of Carmel, 1010 E. 126th St. More than 30 vendors will offer one-of-a-kind gift offerings. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

Hues of Blue gala – The Hues of Blue Gala celebrating Fountains of Hope’s 10th anniversary will be from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at 502 East Event Center in Carmel. Hues of Blue cocktail attire encouraged. Fountains of Hope provides water purification systems to schools, orphanages and communities, especially during times of disaster. One system can purify 3,600 gallons of water each hour. Individual tickets are $125 and a table of 10 is $1,000 and can be obtained at HuesOfBlueGala.org.

Best and Brightest – Junior Achievement of Central Indiana is seeking nominations for the 16th annual Indy’s Best and Brightest event, which will honor 100 of central Indiana’s most outstanding young professionals, age 40 and under, in 10 different industry categories. Ten finalists from each category will be chosen by a selection committee and announced in September. One winner from each category will be announced during the event on March 11, 2020, at Hilbert Circle Theatre downtown Indianapolis. Governor’s Fellowship – Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28 for the 2020-2021 Governor’s Fellowship, a highly selective experience in Indiana state government that places fellows in various state agencies on a rotating basis throughout the year. The program is open to college graduates who receive their bachelor’s degrees in either the fall 2019 or spring 2020. ISP accepting applications – The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for the 80th Recruit Academy. Individuals who are interested a career as an Indiana State Trooper must apply online at in.gov/isp/2368.htm. This website will provide a detailed synopsis of the application process as well as information on additional career opportunities with the Indiana State Police. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Nov. 3.

INDOT offering scholarships– INDOT is offering civil engineering students scholarships of up to $3,125 per semester and paid employment during summer breaks and upon graduation. Students must be accepted or enrolled full time in one of Indiana’s certified civil engineering schools and apply using the form at INDOTScholarship.IN.gov. Applications for the 2020-2021

Indiana House seeks interns – Hamilton County lawmakers are inviting college students and recent graduates to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program, which takes place during the 2020 legislative session at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. The positions are full-time, Monday through Friday, lasting from January through mid-March. Interns receive biweekly compensation of $750 and can earn academic credit. Death by Chocolate – The Death by Chocolate fundraiser supporting Cherish will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 21 at The Meeting House, 2000 E. New Market St. in Carmel. Centier Bank top ranking – For seven years, Centier Bank has ranked among American Banker’s “Best Banks to Work For” list, and for the second consecutive year, Centier was recognized as the top-ranked bank in Indiana. Best Buddies finalist – Chris Thornton, director planning for Carmel-based Verizon authorized retailer TCC, has been named a finalist for the Best Buddies Indiana Champion of the Year awards program. The recipient of the Champion of the Year award will be the finalist who raises the most funds to create opportunities and programs within schools and jobs for the organization’s participants. The winner will be announced at the organization’s gala on Nov. 9. Tickets purchased for the event will go to the selected finalist’s campaign totals. Top Law Firm – U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers has named Barnes & Thornburg LLP to the 2020 Best Law Firms list with 97 top rankings, including 12 nationally. Appellate practice and real estate were added this year to the firm’s list of national Tier 1 rankings.

Dealership honored again – Terry Lee Genesis/Hyundai has been named one of the 2019 Automotive News Best Dealerships To Work For. The program measures workplace satisfaction, talent retention and excellent care of employees through a confidential survey of employers and employees. This marks the third year for the dealership, which stands alone as the only BDTWF recipient in Indiana.

Firm adds attorney – Hollingsworth Roberts Means has added attorney Michelle Baldwin Skaggs to its expanding law firm. With more than 20 years of professional experience, Skaggs will lead HRM’s Estate Planning & Elder Law Practice Group within HRM’s Divorce & Family Law and Business Law teams, working from the firm’s Carmel office.

Jiffy Lube honored for art – Jiffy Lube of Indiana recently received the Americans for the Arts’ national Arts and Business Partnership Award, one of only 10 U.S. companies honored and the first company in Indianapolis to receive this award. Jiffy Lube of Indiana’s “Every Part Matters” project started as a way to cover up graffiti at a local store and has progressed into partnership with the Arts Council of Indianapolis. In addition to supporting and hiring local artists, they’ve also created a new apprentice program that will give paid experience to emerging artists. Two of the murals are in Carmel.

Pedal Perks – The Pedal Perks program is returning for its third year, with Hamilton County businesses offering deals to bike riders. The program runs from through Oct. 31 and has more than 30 businesses offering specials for customers who show proof of their ride.
