City launches new recognition program

Westfield Mayor Andy Cook recently announced the creation of the Westfield Way Award, a monthly honor presented to individuals in the community for exemplary service.

The award is an extension of the city’s hospitality initiative, Westfield Welcome.

“A community is not defined solely by amenities or what is built,” Cook stated on why the award was created. “What truly makes a community great is found in the people – how we serve and support one another. This award will highlight those individuals and organizations going above and beyond.”

A committee comprised of community members and city staff will select award recipients from public nominations submitted on the Westfield Welcome website.

“We want the people who make this community great to be honored,” Westfield Welcome Director Angie Smitherman stated. “The hope is that the community embraces this program and works to promote the spirit of hospitality in our city.”
