The Westfield Young Professionals were established in 2014. This year, the organization plans to add new offerings. It is operated under the Westfield Chamber of Commerce.

“It has evolved to where it’s an initiative by the chamber to get more young professionals involved in the area,” committee chair Jimmy Cox said. “It’s a pipeline for potential.”

In the past, the Westfield Young Professionals has offered monthly networking events for people younger than 40.

“About a year and a half ago, we started looking at, ‘Do we want to actually serve the community, too?’ Cox said. “A lot of people come out for the first time, but they wouldn’t come out for the second, so we thought maybe we should do more than just network.”

This year, the organization is offering community service opportunities and enhancing its networking focus.

“We have two community service events, one in the spring and the other in the fall, and we will add four professional development activities,” Cox said. “By professional development, we will have somebody come in and talk to young professionals about topics of interest to them.”

The first professional development activity will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Westfield Washington Public Library, 333 W. Hoover St.. Local Realtor Steve Rupp will present on the process of buying a home.

The monthly networking events will be on the first Thursday of each month.
