Carmel Clay Schools are still looking for parent and community suggestions in the redistricting process before the maps are finalized later in the year.
Though they are only about a month into the actual mapping process, the third draft of the new boundaries was presented last Tuesday and will be taken back to the schools by parent representatives for discussion. The schools are estimating about 1,000 students will have to change schools in order to meet the projected growth of the district over the next several years.
“We’re trying to make sure we do two things here,” said Tricia Reynolds, community relations coordinator for CCS. “One, we want to provide the best educational environment for students, one where the schools are at maximum limit, and two, we want this redistricting to last as long as possible. We’re going to continue to improve the plan until we reach a point where it just can be further refined.”
The schools hope to meet their self-imposed December deadline to allow for plenty of time to implement the changes.
