Last week, Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard announced the appointment of John Jokantas as interim director of the Carmel Clay Communications Center (911 Emergency Dispatch). Jokantas most recently served as a shift supervisor and has been asked to serve as interim director after the retirement of the Communications Center’s previous Director Marvin Stewart.
“We are so fortunate to have John Jokantas on board to carry on the leadership that Marvin Stewart put into place over his tenure at the Communications Center,” said Mayor Brainard.
Before coming to Carmel, Jokantas served as a 911 operator/dispatcher for the Chesterton Police Department and with the Porter County Sheriff’s department in Valparaiso. He later worked as a patrolman for Valparaiso University, then as a 911 operator/dispatcher for the Porter Police Department. In the summer of 2002, he joined the Carmel Clay Communications Center as a 911 operator/dispatcher and was promoted to assistant shift supervisor, acting operations manager and then to shift supervisor.
Jokantas earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in business management and in criminal justice with a minor in homeland security.
