The Indiana Department of Transportation is currently shifting driving lanes on Keystone Avenue at Interstate 465 on the city’s northeast side to their permanent configuration. Northbound drivers are being diverted to new pavement lanes on the east side of Keystone today. Tomorrow and Wednesday—weather permitting—plans call for normalizing southbound lanes on the west side of the roadway.
All switches in traffic patterns are scheduled for daylight hours to take advantage of optimum surface temperatures that are needed to apply painted pavement markings.
There will be intermittent closures of Keystone Avenue southbound lanes throughout the operation to facilitate the lane changes. Motorists may experience delays.
Once the lane switches have been complete, all Keystone lanes will be open with the following exceptions.
- Both northbound and southbound inside shoulders will remain closed for median barrier construction.
- The northbound left lane will remain closed for installation of box trusses and completion of the barrier wall.
INDOT estimates these restrictions will be lifted in approximately two weeks.
Final epoxy pavement markings will be placed next spring with the return of higher temperatures.
This $18.2 million Major Moves project has reconstructed the Keystone Avenue/Interstate 465 interchange as a partial cloverleaf with two free-flowing loop ramps and added travel lanes on Keystone.
