Hamilton County women who use a wheelchair: Do you have what it takes to become the next Ms. WheelchairIndiana?

The People on Wheels’ Ms. Wheelchair Indiana Pageant is now accepting entries for its 2012 program. The winner of Ms. WheelchairIndianawill have the opportunity to help educate the public, advocating for people with disabilities through local news interviews and school, church and civic appearances. Her reign will conclude at the Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 Pageant, to be held in Providence, RI, Aug. 6-12.

To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a female between 21-60 years old.
  • Use a wheelchair or scooter 100 percent of the time.
  • Be aU.S.citizen.
  • Have resided inIndianafor at least the last six months.
  • Communication skills and experience with advocacy for people with disabilities are especially valued.

Candidates will be honored and a winner will be crowned at a special event on March 18 in the Eli Lilly Hall at the Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St.in Indianapolis. This year’s winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 to assist with personal expenses.
