State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel) recently welcomed Bryce Wooldridge and Olivia Parker to the Indiana Statehouse as legislative pages.

Wooldridge, a student at Carmel High School, is son of Steven and Sabrina Wooldridge.

Parker, a student at Creekside Middle School, is daughter of Charles and Linda Porter.

“Allowing students to experience the inner-workings of the Statehouse helps them develop a greater appreciation for the legislative process,” Delph said. “It connects them to their state government in a way that no other activity can.”

Pages learn about Indiana’s state government through observation and participation. They begin their day with a tour of the historic Statehouse. Throughout their experiences, pages interact with senators, sit in on floor proceedings and hand-deliver important messages during session. In addition, students listen to discussion about bills and resolutions while watching senators vote on legislation.

Delph said students in grades six through 12 are invited to serve as pages, making the Indiana Statehouse their classroom for a day. Pages have the opportunity to work with their senator and Senate staff during the 2012 legislative session, which runs through March 14.

Interested students are encouraged to submit their page requests as soon as possible because space is limited. For more information, visit http://www.in.gov/legislative/senate_republicans/2340.htm or call 1-800-382-9467.
