logo1It is estimated that more than 25,000 spectators lined the streets of Carmel on Wednesday, July 4th to watch the CarmelFest Parade. The parade included 111 entries with more than 2,000 participants. The parade travels along Carmel Drive to Range Line Road to Main Street ending at the Carmel High School. The heat affected 16 participants who had been walking the parade route. All were minors and in various marching bands. They were treated for heat exhaustion and as a precaution, taken to area hospitals for further evaluation.

In advance of the parade, the CarmelFest committee, Carmel Fire Department and the Carmel Clay Library had worked out a contingency plan for the Library to be used to treat those who might need medical assistance during the parade. This plan was implemented when 16 minors who had been walking the route did require assistance near the end of the parade route due to the heat. They were taken first to the Carmel Clay Library and then area hospitals. Carmel Fire Department was assisted by Westfield, Fishers and Noblesville Fire Departments along with IEMS (Indianapolis EMS) to transport the youth.
