IWS Principal Flute Carl Butler and IWS Harpist Melissa Gallant will play Vaughan Williams’ beautiful Fantasia on Greensleeves, and there will be plenty of very familiar Christmas and Hanukkah tunes in interesting arrangements. The concert will conclude with Alfred Reed’s majestic Russian Christmas Music.

Mahler and Mozart

February 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Two major works from two great composers make up this concert. Mozart wrote his masterful Serenade in Bb in 1781, and it is this work that was used in the film Amadeus to show rival composer Salieri’s first impression of Mozart’s work – “It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.” The second half of the concert takes us from the realm of intimate chamber music to the late Romantic vast proportion of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony #1, popularly known as “The Titan.” It is one of the most inspiring works of the 1880s – a century after Mozart.

John Philip Sousa

March 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM

John Philip Sousa was the most famous American musician at the turn of the 20th century, and was the first American-born musician and conductor to be fully accepted in Europe. His concerts entertained, enlightened and educated America for four decades, and although it is mostly through his marches that he is remembered today, his impact as a conductor and a cultural icon was remarkable. This will be a concert in the style and format of one of Sousa’s, and his music will play a large part in the program.

Trumpetissimo with Allen Vizzutti

May 25, 2013 at 7:30 PM

One of the world’s greatest instrumental soloists will be our guest for this concert. Allen Vizzutti has been one of the leading trumpet soloists since exploding onto the musical scene in the early 1980s. He has dazzled audiences worldwide and is sure to inspire young musicians when he comes to the Palladium. The concert will feature wind masterworks new and old, including music of Gustav Holst, Karl King and James Barnes.
