Planned Parenthood of Indiana recently moved a health center from a Castleton location to Fishers at 8937 Technology Dr.
Up to five staff members from the Castleton location will handle services at the Fishers location, according to Liz Carroll, vice president for patient services with PPIN.
Carroll said while Fishers’ population growth is one of the reasons for the move, ease-of-access and geographic balance were factors.
“We thought we were moving to an area where the population is increasing and that our current patients would also be able to access it easily,” Carroll said.
According to a press release, the health center is the first time Planned Parenthood has had a presence in Hamilton County since a Westfield location that closed some years ago.
Carroll could not track down an exact date of closure for the center, but believes it closed approximately 15 years ago after funding for the location changed.
When asked about what the health center meant for healthcare in Hamilton County overall, Carroll said the health center brings another option for men and women to seek family planning or other reproductive healthcare services.
Carroll said the organization does not expect any backlash on a local level, as the distance between the new and old location isn’t large.
According to the press release from Planned Parenthood, the distance between the two locations is less than six miles.
“We haven’t experienced any issues in Castleton,” she said. “I don’t know why we would expect any in Fishers.”
