Wondering how things are progressing at the Grand Park Sports Campus? The city of Westfield is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to get a sneak peak of the construction at an open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 701 E. 191st St. Parking will be available off of 191st Street.

The event marks the beginning of the next phase for the Grand Park Sports Campus, as fields have been graded and underground infrastructure installed. Officials said the next phase of the project includes installation of a pedestrian tunnel and field irrigation along with stone laid for all parking lots and multi-use paths that run throughout the park’s 350 acres.

“As we enter the next phase of construction at the Sports Campus, we are excited to be able to show the community what’s been happening throughout the last year and give visitors a chance to see the park up close to get a feel for what an amazing destination this will become,” said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook.

City spokesman Derek Todd said interactive exhibits and a virtual video tour will show visitors what the finished Grand Park Sports Campus will look like and will be available inside the main tent. Free wagon ride tours will be running throughout the event and will showcase the various sections of the park and provide riders with facts and information about the park and its future. The open house will also include complimentary hot dogs from Zacky’s Hotdogs and other refreshments, along with free tethered balloon rides (weather permitting) in order to get a bird’s eye view of the park.

“The Construction Open House event is also a chance to learn about the development happening around the park, from the Grand Park Village concept, which includes a 20-acre lake and surrounding boardwalk with entertainment and dining, to Mainstreet, a new healthcare facility currently under construction located adjacent to the sports campus and directly off of the newly built 186th Street,” Todd said.

Grand Park is a planned youth and adult recreational sports village that will host a wide range of athletic competitions, local, regional and national sports tournaments, and community sporting events. The entire complex will be surrounded by dining, retail and entertainment venues, all geared toward supporting and enhancing the family sports atmosphere and experience.
