Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Approximately 1.2 million Americans suffer a heart attack each year. The $25 Pocket EKG program and $49 Heart Scans offered by IU Health North Hospital and IU Health Saxony Hospital during the month of February can save lives, and is being offered in February in conjunction with Go Red for Women month to raise awareness about women’s heart health. The $49 heart scans will continue past February.
The Pocket EKG program is a screening for adults with a complete 12-lead EKG reading and blood pressure check. The patient receives the screening at IU Health North or Saxony Hospitals. Afterward, the results are reviewed by a cardiologist and the patient receives a letter with the EKG results, as well as a wallet sized medical identification card that provides important emergency information such as cardiac history and your baseline EKG. The $49 heart scans are a very quick exam with same-day preliminary results.

The heart scans give you a clearer picture of your heart health.”
The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology both recommend that all adults over the age of 40 have a baseline EKG. In addition, if you have other risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, and high blood pressure, you can schedule a $49 heart scan.
