0

In honor of March being Disability Awareness Month, the Arc Artisans Art Show will be held at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown on Friday, March 8 from 6 to 9 p.m, and will  feature an art show and sale, a silent auction and jazz by musicians Tony Artis and Lester Stansberry. The event is free and open to the public. For more information call Marcia Clutter at The Arc of Greater Boone County 765-482-6815 or visit www.thearcgbc.org.

In addition to the art show, the Arc of Greater Boone County has encouraged every elementary and middle school in Boone County to participate this March by simply reading children a book or short story or showing a video that relates to the theme of Disability Awareness Month. The Arc also encourages schools and individuals toparticipate in the Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign, sponsored by Special Olympics and Best Buddies. At www.r-word.org individuals can take a pledge to end the use of the “r” word, and download videos, information, resources, materials and ideas for conducting age-appropriate awareness activities. This campaign’s annual day of awareness is the first Wednesday of every March.
