Zionsville West Middle School Increases Grant Awards For 2013

With the help of donors, the Zionsville West Middle School PTO exceed its fundraising goal, the PTO Board voted to increase the amount of spring grants awarded to teachers to $3,326. This represents an increase of more than $840 over the budgeted amount and brings the total of PTO enrichment grants for the year to more than $11,750. In keeping with the goals set forth by the PTO, grants were awarded for all grade levels and multiple program areas including language arts, science, math and counseling.

Grants were awarded for the following items:

Field trip transportation for eighth graders to the IRT ($400)

 

sixth grade language arts teachers

Children’s books to teach reading skills and literary devices ($333)

Technology to allow for the use of Smart Notebook throughout the classroom ($278)

 

Cathy Sutton

Author Mike Mullin to speak with students on writing ($250)

 

Tonya Taylor and Lori Wernsman

Weighted blankets and other materials to help students ($450)

 

LeAnne Thacker, Ryan Batsie and Kristy Eisenman

Digital language arts materials ($200)

 

Brad Weinstein

Hotplates and large compasses for use in science ($425)

 

Julie Breuninger and Chelsey Foster

Videos and books about teen stress ($406)

 

Janet Ostendorf

Math enrichment games ($105)

 

Liz Ferrand

Renewal of online educational resource ($410)

 

Megan McNeely and Jane Green

Magazine subscriptions for classroom use ($70)
