Carmel Clay School District Recognized Nationally for School’s Music Education Efforts

What: The NAMM Foundation has named Carmel Clay School District among the Best Communities for Music Education in the United States. Friday, March 22, 2013, the district will hold a special presentation and student concert to celebrate this prestigious accolade and honor of the tireless efforts of the parents, teachers and students who have made strengthening music education programs in our schools a priority.

Who: After the special award presentation, there will be 5 ensembles performing with 110+ students in grades 7-12 from Carmel Middle School and Carmel High School who are enrolled in the Jazz curriculum.  Richard Saucedo, Director of Bands at CHS, Associate Directors at CHS Michael Pote, Chris Kreke, Andrew Cook and Carmel Middle School Director of Bands, Chris Drabyn lead the 5 ensembles. Trumpeter and Guest Artist Mark Buselli, Director of Jazz Studies at Ball State University, will be performing with each ensemble.

When: Friday, March 22, 2013 at 7:30pm (immediately before performances)

Where: Carmel High School, 520 East Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032

Why: Despite economic challenges that negatively impact funding for education, Carmel Clay Schools is one of 307 school districts in the nation, named by the NAMM Foundation, to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to providing music education for all of their students.

Interview Notes:

  • Select students will have parental permission received and be available for interview before the ceremony.
  • Carmel High School and Carmel Middle School music educators will be available for interviews before the ceremony.
  • Dr. Swensson, CCS superintendent, will be available for interviews before the ceremony.
