She is an Academy Award-nominated actress for her role as Billie Holiday in “Lady Sings The Blues,” a Tony and Golden Globe winner, a bestselling author, winner of eight American Music Awards and a recipient of The Kennedy Center Honors. Ross has sold over 100 million records and has recorded 18 number one hits. Her music became the sound of young America in the ‘60s soon after she signed with Motown Records in 1961 with The Supremes. She embarked on her solo career in 1970. Ross was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Supremes. In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Ross the most successful female music artist in history due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any female artist in the charts with a career total of 70 hit singles.
