Westfield’s Carrie Cason has been named the new director of communications for the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis. She began her new role on Aug. 5.

Cason has been in communications and public affairs for more than 10 years and was previously the director of communications and public affairs for the City of Westfield under Mayor Andy Cook. Cason served as spokesperson for the City of Westfield and also managed all internal and external communications, social media and all marketing and communication strategies. Before Westfield, Cason worked for the City of Chicago in communications and public affairs.

“My departure from the City of Westfield is very bittersweet,” she said. “I will miss Mayor Cook and my Westfield work family, but I am extremely excited about my new opportunity with BAGI.”

Cason is replacing Steve Harris, who is moving back to his hometown of Lexington, Ky. He will be working at his alma mater, the University of Kentucky, as the new internal communications manager at UK HealthCare.

“We are thrilled that Carrie will be joining our BAGI team,” CEO Steve Lains said. “Her broad communication experience will be a great asset for BAGI and our membership as we continue to grow our organization.”

Cook said that while the city will miss Cason, he believes in his staff bettering themselves.

“I’m all for it,” he said. “She’ll do a great job, we’ll miss her. I encourage my department heads to continually better themselves. I found that some of our best employees come from or are destined for the private sector.”

Cook said the city is interviewing applicants to fill Cason’s position.
