A jack of all trades

Jack Hess, 35, of Noblesville has worked at the Hamilton East Public Library Noblesville branch for l5 years.  He has worked at the front desk, computer room and wherever else he is needed. At work, and in life, Hess is a “jack of all trades.” He is a library circulation clerk, a minister and a collector.

Hess has lived a diversified life and appears to know his priorities; which include his widowed mother, Mary, his faith and his jobs. For fun, he adds to his collections of Wonder Woman, Superman, Cyborg, the DC Teen Titans and most of all, his collection of most of The Hardy Boys Books by Franklin W. Dixon.

On weekends Hess serves as a licensed minister in churches in Kokomo, Anderson, Sheridan and Marion, Ind. In his free time, Hess reads a lot and has an abundance of books. He is also a collector of die-cast automobilia such as the Ferrari, the Dukes of Hazzard’s The General Lee Dixie Charger, and even has a truck of the former Hess Oil Co. (no relation). Variety seems to be the spice of life for Hess and his mother.

“I like mysteries, westerns and old movies such as Night Rider, Magnum P.I. and old TV shows which I purchase on DVDs” he said.

Hess likes to attend programs at the library and keeps up on his job by knowing what programs are presently available and when future programs will be held. He also is computer savvy and able to assist patrons when he is on the second floor desk outside of the computer room. Hess does his research via the Internet and reading.

“The Dewey Decimal System, which started in l876, has progressed throughout the years to the present day,” he said. “The additions and tractions are amazing now in science and technology and categories, used and unused, since the 24th edition of 2011.”

Hess grew up in Noblesville and graduated from Noblesville High School. He is a graduate of Anderson University with a double major in education and history. He made the dean’s list and the National dean’s list in addition to taking theology classes to serve God. If variety is the spice of life, Hess lives that type of life.
