Westfield’s fire department gained a new chief today.
Joe Lyons, who has served as Westfield’s interim fire chief since January, was officially named chief this afternoon in a ceremony with Mayor Andy Cook. Lyons began his career with the department in 1996.
“Joe has proved himself as a leader in the department and richly deserves this appointment,” Cook stated. “We are lucky to have him in our city and look forward to his leadership in this new role.”
Lyons replaces former fire chief Jason Lemons, who was named to the position on Feb. 15, 2013.
“As a long-time member of the Westfield Fire Department, I am very honored by this appointment,” Lyons stated. “I look forward to serving Westfield’s citizens and visitors to help make our community as safe and enjoyable as possible.”
