Prairie Plates Event to Feature Fine Wines, Farm-to-Fork Menu in Unique Setting

Conner Prairie is partnering with the executive chef and sommelier of Joseph Decuis, a farm-to-fork culinary gem from northern Indiana, to offer an elegant evening for adults that features artisan food paired with fine wines.

On April 10, Conner Prairie will open the Chinese House for this unique event. The Chinese House sits on Conner Prairie’s land and was Eli Lilly’s summer home that features Chinese décor and artifacts. In the 1920s it was rumored to be a Prohibition-era speakeasy, making it the perfect setting for this dinner that will feature fine wines and courses of Wagyu beef.

“Conner Prairie is excited to open the Chinese House to the chef and staff at Joseph Decuis to provide guests with a fine-dining experience like no other,” said Ellen M. Rosenthal, president and CEO. “We are dedicated to preserving history through raising heritage breeds, which pairs perfectly with Joseph Decuis’ mission of offering fresh, elegant and delicious farm-to-fork offerings.”

Joseph Decuis’ James Beard Award-nominated Executive Chef Aaron Butts, Sommelier Carmen McGee and owners Pete and Alice Eshelman, will guide guests through a variety of courses featuring their own farm-raised Wagyu beef, prepared in a variety of delicious ways. Along with the meal, McGee will share her knowledge on how to pair fine wines with the delicious offerings. While socializing and enjoying delicious food and wine, participants will also be able to ask questions and learn more about farm-to-fork dining.

“Our entire staff has attended Hearthside Suppers in the past, which led us to fall in love with Conner Prairie’s dedication to raising heritage breeds and offering artisan food and wines through unique events that all focus on preserving history,” said Butts. “Joseph Decuis is a farm-to-fork restaurant where we raise our own meat. This is a natural partnership for us, and we are excited for the opportunity to showcase what we have to offer with the Greater Indianapolis area.”
