A Duke Energy employee died March 25 following an accident at a Carmel substation near the intersection of 141st Street and Towne Road.

By the time Carmel emergency responders arrived on the scene, Michael Davis, 59, of Noblesville was in cardiac arrest. Emergency medical technicians with the Carmel Fire Dept. transported Davis to St.Vincent Hospital at 86th Street in Indianapolis, but he was pronounced dead later that evening.

“We can confirm there was a fatal injury in Hamilton County yesterday (Mar. 25), and we are conducting an investigation on this incident,” Duke Energy said in a prepared statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this employee’s family, friends and co-workers at this time.”

Davis had been with Duke Energy for 37 years, where he was a substation maintenance supervisor, according to his family. Duke Energy said it was investigating the incident at time of publication.

Born May 8, 1954 in Noblesville, Davis was the son of Jack and Rosaline (Walton) Davis. He was a 1972 graduate of Noblesville High School and a member of the Free Mason Lodge No. 57. He was an avid gun admirer, and he and his son, Scott, loved attending the 1500 Gun & Knife Show. He also enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles. He was full of life and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his mother, Rosaline Davis; son, Scott S. Davis; sister, Deborah (David) Bastin; niece, Megan Bastin; nephew, Brad (fiancé Suzy Dreher) Bastin; and cousins, Kris Davis, Kelly MacDonald and Jody Gillespie.

His father preceded him in death.

Funeral service was held March 29 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center in Noblesville. Burial followed at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Noblesville Lions Club; Free Masons No. 57 Lodge Educational Fund; or the Humane Society for Hamilton County, 1721 Pleasant St., Suite B, Noblesville 46060.
