Why did you become a teacher? In college, I was an assistant basketball coach and learned that I loved being around kids. I consider it a privilege to be a teacher and to be part of a kid’s life even just for a year. I hope they leave fourth grade with fond memories of what they learned and their teacher.

What goals do you have for your students? I want my students to enjoy coming to school and be excited about what we are learning. I love it when a kid doesn’t want to wait till tomorrow to read the next chapter or when their eyes light up during a science experiment.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills? Every parent needs to be a reading role model for their child. Children need to see their parents reading for information and enjoyment. I know with busy schedules, it is hard to make time for reading. As a family, try to set some time a side for reading, where everyone stops everything and just reads. It will make a world of difference on your child’s attitude towards books.

Who is your favorite movie? “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Office Space”

Who is your favorite musician or band? Arcade Fire and Ben Folds

What’s something your students might not know about you? I am obsessed with Broadway musicals and try to travel to New York whenever I can.
