Fishers Police Department warns residents of telephone scam

The Fishers Police Department is urging residents to be aware of a recent telephonic scam.

Over the past couple of weeks officers have responded to several reports of residents receiving suspicious telephone calls at their homes. The caller (perpetrator) claimed to be a Deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The perpetrator explained that the resident has failed to appear for jury duty and threatened to issue a warrant, for their arrest, unless they agree to pay a fine of $450.00. The resident was instructed to supply payment over the phone by way of a Green Dot Money Pak.

Thankfully these residents recognized the calls as suspicious and did not fall victim to this scam. In these situations we recommend residents simply hang up the phone. We also encourage any resident that feels they have be a victim of a scam to immediately contact the Hamilton County Dispatch Center, at 317-773-1282, and request to file a report with a Fishers police officer.
