Smith, along with her colleagues and members of her family, received the surprise announcement from Superintendent Nicholas Wahl at a staff meeting at Creekside Middle School on May 30.

“The positive attitude and work ethic she models for her staff make her a true leader. Lynda’s love for Carmel schools’ students is evident in the care she takes to make sure that every student through the line at Creekside is greeted with a smile,” one nominator wrote of Smith.

“Lynda exemplifies the excellence of our staff through her tireless effort and her willingness to work collaboratively with her peers. Lynda truly cares for students and staff alike,” Wahl said.

Smith has worked for Carmel scholls for the past 14 years. In addition to her current position at Creekside Middle School, Smith also managed the cafeterias at Prairie Trace and West Clay elementary schools. She has held many leadership positions focused on software training, catering and training new managers and staff.

Support staff member of the year nominations are made by students, parents and colleagues each spring. A selection committee consisting of support staff and administrators review the nominations, conduct interviews with both the candidate’s principal and nominator and then selects the recipient of the award.
