CarmelFest: Festival food has offerings from ethnic to sweet and everything in between

From sweet to spicy, this year’s food vendors will offer an array of flavorful selections. And although people can find a corn dog or an elephant ear, there’s a vast selection of other delights planned for sale at CarmelFest 2014`.

Schnitzels and Giggles is traveling all the way from New Hampshire to provide authentic German food to festivalgoers.

Alexandra Graf, Robert Graf and their children, Daphne and Meagan, dress up in German attire and offer classic as well as unique German food.

While the Grafs usually stay predominantly along the East Coast for events and festivals, they decided they would do something new and visit the Midwest.

“We are excited about being in a new territory,” Alexandra Graf said.

Some of their featured items will include schnitzel on a stick, bratwursts and potato pancakes.

Meanwhile, Cobb’s Cajun Cooking will be returning again this year. Some of its featured items will be shrimp jambalaya, Cajun walleye and tenderloin with Louisiana seasoning.

“I get all my seasonings straight from Louisiana,” said Gary Cobb said of the Indianapolis restaurant.

Cobb’s will also feature an alligator cabob, or alligator tail meat on a stick.

While Cajun food is thought to be all about the spices, Cobb wants people to know one thing.

“Just because it’s Cajun food that doesn’t mean it’s spicy,” he said.

Cobb’s spiciest option on the menu is the shrimp jambalaya.

Looking to satisfy a sweet tooth?

Carmel’s own Urick Concessions will feature its Indiana State Fair food contest entry, the funnel cake ice cream sandwich. It’s a soft-serve vanilla ice cream concoction layered into two funnel cakes and topped with powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle.

Bryan’s Concessions from Argos, Ind., will offer fried ice-cream candy bars. It also will provide authentic Mexican dishes and sweet, flavored lemonades.

A cruise through the perimeter of the grounds will turn up other options. There truly is something for everyone’s palate at CarmelFest.
