On Aug.22 , troopers from the Indianapolis Post conducted a sobriety checkpoint on the east side of Marion County. The checkpoint was held in conjunction with the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, along with checkpoints in Boone and Hamilton counties.

During the operation of the event troopers had 200 cars pass through the Indianapolis checkpoint and officers arrested four intoxicated drivers. In addition they issued 20 traffic citations that included two misdemeanor criminal arrests; five driving while suspended violations and nine other traffic violations.

The Indiana State Police remains committed to reducing the number of driving while impaired crashes as well as distracted driving crashes. Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired/distracted drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.

The number of impaired drivers in Carmel and Zionsville have not yet been reported, however local police want to remind drivers that there is increased traffic security now through Labor Day in all Indianapolis metro areas.
