Remembering others this time of year is the key notion of what the holidays represent. Giving back, paying it forward or just passing it on can go a long way. There are those that financially struggle, have no home and those too weak to complete even the smallest of tasks due to age. Judith, a Carmel resident, has reached her fragile years and struggles to maintain her home.

Luckily for her, there are people like Heather Mudd in this community. Mudd started her service projects four years ago as part of Northview Church in Carmel as a way for her family and friends to give back to their community during the holiday season. This year she plans to take her service to the next level.

“This project became even more important to me when I realized that she [Judith] needed more than just one day of help,” Mudd said. In order to get the community involved Mudd has registered her project at www.startsomegood.com where volunteer work can be found all over the world. People wishing to donate can visit this page and read more about Judith and Mudd.

“My goal is to raise funds, through donations, to have a new aluminum porch roof ordered and installed on Judith’s property,” Mudd said.

Judith is only the beginning for Mudd. There are thousands of people in Carmel in need of help like this. And Mudd said it’s time the community steps in to lend a helping hand.

“My ultimate goal is to be able to do more community projects and maybe inspire others to look at different ways of helping others around us. Also, to get as many people on board as possible to show that this type of fundraising can be done in Carmel,” Mudd said.

As of press time, $1,225 had been raised to help repair Judith’s porch. The goal is $2,980. To donate to repair Judith’s roof, visit www.startsomegood.com/judithsporchroof.
