James E. Whiten, 45, of Noblesville died Dec. 24, 2014 at St.Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Born Jan. 3, 1969 in Milwaukee, he was the son of James Lee Whiten and Michele Holland.

He owned Home Turf landscaping company and enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, traveling and playing guitar. He also was a pilot, loved airplanes and fast cars, and enjoyed making people laugh with bad jokes and random movie quotes.

Survivors include his wife, Jodie Harper; son, James Alexander “Alex” Whiten; step-mother, Candy West; step-father, Duke Holland; grandmother, Gerri Kain; brother, Scott (Mariel) Whiten; sisters, Renee (Hector) Lopez and Melissa (Thomas) Brown; niece, Brianna Lopez; aunt, Carol Dolder; sister-in-law, Denise (Kelly) Harper; brother-in-law, Shawn (Erika) Harper; and several step-sibling, nieces, nephews, aunt and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Grace Harper Whiten; and grandparents, James P. and Hazel Whiten and Edward Kain.

A mass was held Dec. 28 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Rd., with Father Mike Welch officiating. A celebration of life post-party followed at Rick’s Cafe Boatyard, 4050 Dandy Trail, Indianapolis.
