Art museum, Monon Center offer family excursions

Looking for a reason to venture out in the cold? The Indianapolis Museum of Art is beckoning! This year, the museum is hosting a Family Day on the first Saturday of each month. It runs from 10:00 am to 3 p.m., and includes art activities, storytelling, and a variety of musical themes. Family Day coming up on February 7 features a cartoon presentation, LEGO building, and a performance from the Indianapolis Chinese Orchestra. Admission is open to all, and there is no cost to attend.

The museum also plays host to Cereal Cinema: classic family movies and a cereal buffet. The film series alternates between the IMA and the Athenaeum, and will serve as the kick-off for March and May’s Family Days. The next showing is The Princess Bride at the Athenaeum on Feb.7; tickets are available for $5 online.

For ages 2-5, check out Winter Kids Koncerts at the Monon Community Center. These free events are held on the final Monday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. Children enjoy singing and moving to the beat of classical hits and children’s favorites, and parents get to take in the experience along with them. Upcoming Koncerts will feature Island Breeze Duo on Feb. 23 and Kid Kazooey on March 30.
