Amy K. Sorrells has always had a passion for writing, but when she realized it may not always put food on the table she decided to become a nurse. Still, she continued to write and will soon publish her second novel, “Then Sings My Soul.”

The author’s experience as a nurse is evident throughout the book, a story of aging, dying and searching for hope in dark times. “Then Sings My Soul” is Sorrells’ second novel published by David C. Cook and will be available March 1.

“As a nurse, every day I meet people, see things, experience tragedy and gain insight in ways I never, ever would otherwise,” said Sorrells, a Zionsville resident and DePauw University graduate. “My work fuels my writing, and my writing fuels my work.”

Most of Sorrells’ writing is faith-driven and share some of the same themes. Her first novel published by David C. Cook — “How Sweet the Sound” — is a story of second chances. It is a coming of age story full of redemption and dark secrets. The author’s passion for the country of Ukraine – where she has family connections – may also be seen in her work.

In addition to being a published author, Sorrells has been a two-time semi-finalist for the American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis awards and was the winner of the 2011 Women of Faith writing contest. She is also a former weekly columnist and blogs frequently on her website.

When Sorrells isn’t writing, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons in their home, digging and planting in her garden, photography, walking her golden retrievers and refurbishing old furniture and junk.

Sorrells doesn’t plan on slowing down with the release of her new book. Readers can expect the release of “Lead Me Home” in 2016, a novel from Tyndale House Publishers. Although she’s already working toward a future book release, she said it doesn’t detract from the thrill and excitement she has for March 1.

“‘Then Sings My Soul’ is a story from my heart,” Amy says, “I hope readers will love it as much as I do.”

A look at “Then Sings My Soul”

Set to release March 1, “Then Sings My Soul” tells the tale of Nel Stewart caring for a father with dementia as she copes with the recent death of her mother. When packages from Ukraine arrive at her doorstep and an old high-school sweetheart reenters her life, Nel believes God is restoring her faith and her future by pulling her back into her past. Through elements of mystery, history, faith and romance, Sorrells hopes to reveal to her audience how God redeems the broken years.
