106th St. to close for 60 days; local street project will include new roundabout, reconstructed street in Carmel

Work continues on the Carmel’s Illinois Street Extension project, west of U.S. 31. A temporary 60-day closure of 106th Street begins April 27 after rush hour, to allow for reconstruction of the road between Spring Mill Road and Illinois Street.

This work includes a new roundabout at the realigned intersection with the new Illinois Street, just west of the existing intersection of Illinois Street and 106th Street. A detour route using Spring Mill Road and Illinois Street will be in place for the entirety of 106th Street closure.

Once the roundabout construction is completed, the new roundabout will be opened to eastbound and westbound traffic on 106th Street and it is anticipated that north and southbound traffic on Illinois Street north of 106th Street will also be opened.

The existing Illinois Street alignment south of 106th Street will be adjusted to the west to line up with the new roundabout. A second closure on Illinois Street will occur when crews are ready to connect the new and existing Illinois Street segments south of 106th Street. This closure will be in place for approximately 15 days. Details regard the 15 day closure will be forthcoming as the project progresses.
