Presley Boulevard construction to begin

Presley RoundaboutWEB

The first phase of construction for the Presley Boulevard extension will begin later this month. The road, which will run parallel to Ind. 37, will connect Pleasant Street to Ind. 32 with roundabouts when completed in 2016. The first phase is expected to cost $2,150,000.

“Presley Boulevard will be another opportunity for motorists to access commercial development and retail stores. I know Union Chapel Road, which also has helped alleviate traffic on Ind. 37, has seen 5,000 cars per day since it opened,” said City Project Manager Jim Hellmann.

Hellmann said the first phase of the project will make the following improvements:

Hellmann said the Pleasant Street roundabout will require three daytime closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flaggers will assist traffic on Pleasant Street during these closures. A traffic shift will be completed to construct the north half of the roundabout. A two-week full closure is required on Pleasant Street to construct the remainder of the roundabout. A detour route will be posted for the full closure. Hellmann said the roundabout construction is expected to be completed in August.

The second phase is the roundabout at Ind. 32, which will be overseen by the Indiana Dept. of Transportation. Hellmann said that project is expected to go out for bid in November with construction in late spring 2016.

“We have to have the roundabout in place because Pleasant Street will be a detour route when the state is working on the other roundabout,” Hellmann said.

More details about traffic restrictions will be announced closer to construction.
