A 43,875-square-foot building addition is in the works for the Indy Spine Group Medical Office Building near U.S. 31 in Carmel.

The new two-story structure will provide a surgery area and related recovery areas for Indy Spine Group, according to documents sent to the Carmel Plan Commission.

Browning Real Estate Properties is having its architects make sure the new building matches the look and design of the existing building, which takes up 8.61 acres.

The site next to the existing building is currently vacant and was previously approved for the Hotel Indigo project in 2008 but that never came to fruition.

The parking area will be expanded with two new patient drop-off areas. An emergency generator will be attached to the building.

The addition will be an “L” shape that connects to the first and second floors of the existing building.

In the report, city planners requested that additional landscaping be added to help hide the back of the building.

The item will be considered at a July 7 special studies committee meeting.
