Public Hearing for New I-69 Interchange at 106th Street Will be Held Sept. 10 at Fishers City Hall Auditorium

The Indiana Department of Transportation and project partners will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at the Fishers City Hall Auditorium to present and discuss proposed plans to build a new interchange at Interstate 69 and 106th Street.

INDOT, the city of Fishers and Hamilton County have partnered to fund construction of a two-lane, oval-shaped roundabout on 106th Street over I-69 and ramps to and from both directions of the interstate. Fishers and Hamilton County will collectively contribute up to $12 million toward the estimated $34 million cost of building the new interchange.

The existing bridge over I-69 is proposed to be removed as part of the project and replaced with two separate bridges that will each carry one direction of traffic. The bridge carrying westbound traffic on the north side of 106th Street is also designed to accommodate non-vehicular traffic.

Preliminary designs, tentative construction schedules and proposed maintenance of traffic plans will be discussed during a formal presentation beginning at 6 p.m.  Written and verbal statements from the public will be collected during the hearing and for a period of two weeks after the hearing.  All public comments will be reviewed and considered by INDOT.

The project is intended to reduce congestion at existing I-69 interchanges at 96th and 116th streets, increase traffic safety in the area and provide direct interstate access at 106th Street. Direct access will serve existing residential and commercial destinations and accommodate development and population growth in the area.
