Letter: Opposition not discrimination

0

Editor,

Ms. Wolfgang’s letter seriously misrepresents the views expressed by the opponents of the mayor’s proposed ordinance. A variety of reasons for opposition were given including it being unnecessary and infringing on first amendment rights.

It is totally inaccurate to insinuate that persons opposed to this ordinance are for discrimination. On the contrary, many mentioned that all persons in our diverse community should be treated with dignity and respect. However, treating others with civility does not require affirmation of their beliefs. This ordinance is an attempt to force the politically correct beliefs of some on all in our community, to the detriment of our constitutional rights.
