Carmel-based Mesh Systems has earned a spot on Inc. Magazine’s 500 list of fastest-growing private companies in America just a few days after being named one of the 2015 Indiana Companies to Watch – an awards program presented by the State of Indiana and the Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

This is the second year that Mesh Systems was recognized by Inc. Magazine, being ranked #707 on the top 5000 list in 2014. This year they were ranked #281 with a three year growth rate of 1,645 percent.

“The industry that we operate in is a very exciting and fast growing industry,” said Richard V. Baxter, Jr., president and CEO of Mesh Systems. “We’ve established ourselves as one of the very best companies in the world in helping Fortune 500 clients leverage the power of the Internet of Things.”

The company provides software and services for the concept known as the Internet of Things, and it is the only software company in the Inc. 500 solely focused on IoT.

Mesh Systems’ technology connects everyday objects such as street lights, water heaters and coffee machines to a cloud-based software platform and application suite. These items can then work intelligently with the cloud to balance supply and demand.

The company began almost 10 years ago with three founders and has grown to a staff of 14. With two of the founders having roots in central Indiana, Carmel seemed a natural location for its headquarters.

“Carmel is a fabulous place for our people to live,” Baxter said. “It’s not a difficult sell to get people to live in Carmel,” he said, citing the culture, schools and livable community as factors in attracting employees.

As for the future, Baxter expects his business to continue to be a major player in the IoT industry.

“We like to talk about what we’ve done,” he said. “The future’s very rosy.”
