Carmel edges Zionsville by one point at boys swimming championship

With one race left, Carmel trailed Zionsville by one point in the boys state high school swimming meet.

The Greyhhounds did just enough to get the job done, finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay while Zionsville was fourth. The result gave Carmel a 216-215 victory at team standings Feb. 27 at IU Natatorium at IUPUI.

Carmel had two champions in senior Troy Li (200 freestyle) and junior Charles Vaughan (200 Individual Medley). Zionsville sophomore Jack Franzman won the 50 free and 100 free. Zionsville junior Tyler Harman captured the 100 backstroke.

It was Carmel’s 16th state boys title and second in a row. Zionsville was seeking its first state title in the competition.
