Title Boxing Club in Fishers will host a fundraising event to benefit the Lupus Foundation of American Indiana Chapter May 21. Participants will pay a $40 donation and receive a one-hour boxing class.

“About 36,000 Hoosiers are estimated to have lupus,” Indiana chapter CEO Morgan McGill said. “It’s such a hard illness to understand by the public because they don’t see that it happens all the time because of the re-occurrence of symptoms. It’s very complicated to get the message about what it is and what happens. It takes about three years on average for patients to be given an accurate diagnosis. It happens to women 90 percent of the time.”

The event was organized by Sherry Eldridge, an area lupus patient who is very active with LFOAIC.

“About six months ago, for her health and to stay mobile, she started working out at Title Boxing Club,” McGill said. “They became interested in the fact that she was a lupus patient. She became aware that they do community events at their club and we decided on May because it’s the time of year we try and get out into the community to promote awareness. They’ve offered to give 100 percent to our organization, which is not the standard for fundraisers. This is special and all due to Sherry that they are giving 100 percent of their proceeds. We’re very thankful to them.”

Participants should register in advance by contacting the club at 317-767-5550. The $40 donation fee includes wraps and gloves.

“You don’t have to have ever tried boxing before,” McGill said. “They have registration from 1:30 to 2 p.m. and then some instruction. Boxing is at 2:30 p.m. and will last for about an hour.”
