Letters to military – The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the most letters collected and sent to military personnel in one month (10,000 or more). West Park workshops – On May 2 – 4, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation will host a three-day design workshop as the next step in creating a new master plan to guide future development within the 120 acres of West Park to best meet the current and future needs of the community. Personal care pantry open house – Dotted Line Divas has opened a personal care pantry to provide families in need with basic hygiene and personal care items at no cost. They will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 1 so the public can see the project and perhaps become involved. If interested in attending, call 317-316-7058.

Program for preteen girls – IU Health North will host Girlology – There’s Something New About You for girls in grades 4-5 from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 22. The program is designed to teach girls about puberty so they can face it with confidence and excitement. Cost is $20 per person and includes a goody bag for each girl. Relay For Life kickoff meeting – Relay For Life will hold a Carmel Against Cancer kickoff meeting at 7:30 p.m. on April 28 at IU Health North, first floor conference room. The meeting will focus on activities and updates for the Relay For Life coming up in June.

CPD hiring – The Carmel Police Dept. is accepting applications for the position of police officer. The Carmel Police Dept. offers a variety of assignments with the opportunity for advancement, including promotions and specialized positions. Celebrations series – The Museum of Miniature Houses presents Celebrations of Creativity and Craftsmanship. Upcoming sessions include: April 27 at noon where Rex Martin will be performing songs from his new recording, “Out of the Woodwork.” He is currently in 2B Stainless, a band that he has led since 2006 that appears regularly in the Indianapolis area and whose focus is original music.

Miniatures attic sale – The Museum of Miniature Houses will hold its annual Attic Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 30 at the Lion’s Club, 141 E. Main St. This year’s sale will include a large selection of miniature furniture, accessories, dolls, dollhouses, kits and supplies. More items can also be found on sale at the museum, so plan to stop in at both locations.

Earth Day art contest displays – To celebrate Earth Day, Carmel Green Initiative hosted the seventh annual Earth Hour-Earth Day Art Contest in partnership with the City of Carmel, Carmel Arts & Design District, and the Carmel Clay Public Library. Children’s Earth Day art displays are located at the Carmel Clay Public Library, the Monon Center, Muldoon’s in the Arts & Design District, and Whole Foods Market in Clay Terrace. The exhibits will be on display until May 2nd.

Percussion clinic – Students in grades 4 through 8 are invited to the Carmel High School Percussion Clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21 at the high school band room, entrance #29. Techniques on keyboard and drums will be taught and a parent performance will be held at 1 p.m. Cost is $30 and includes a t-shirt, pizza and snacks. Shredding event – Crime Stoppers Community SHRED-IT day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 30 at Creekside Middle School, 3525 W. 126th St. A $5 donation is requested per shredding box. Help Crime Stoppers raise their reward fund to keep our communities safe. Recycle small electronics and computers with technology recyclers. A $5 fee for glass TV/Computer monitors will be charged.

Art contest winners on display – The Museum of Miniature Houses will feature the fifteen winners of the annual Carmel High School Art Department’s “Minumental” competition. Students were challenged to create works of art no bigger than 1 inch x 1 inch x 1 inch, in any medium, to illustrate song lyrics of their choice. The exhibit will run until May. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
