“Hickory Hall Polo Club is one of a few outdoor polo clubs in the state of Indiana that still exists,” said Anita Bowen, BCSS executive director. “Prior to last year the club typically brought in players from outside of the state of Indiana, but now polo has become so popular they don’t have to do that. They have men and women of all ages playing out there. It’s an amazing and beautiful facility.”

Gates open at 11 a.m., and the match begins at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per car load or guests can purchase box seats. The day will include many family-friendly events.

“The match is obviously the big draw, but we want to make sure there is something fun and exciting for people of all ages,” Bowen said “We do kids activities including pony rides and face painting. There is something that happens at halftime where an airplane flies over the field and drops candy. That’s always a real highlight. It’s really pretty awesome. They actually invite the children to go out on the field to stop the divots at half time.”

Adults can even get in on the fun.

“There is a pretty woman award, because people are encouraged to come in costume or polo attire if they would like,” Bowen said. “We certainly have people who go all out, and we also have people who are dressed casually and comfortable.”

Judges will also be looking for the best decorated tailgate box. Groups can purchase boxes to be situated near the field during the match.

“We encourage people to come up with a theme and go all out decorating,” Bowen said. “The boxes give them an opportunity to experience the match from the best seats.”
