It isn’t hard for Julie Johns-Cole to pinpoint what she will miss most about being the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce executive director.

“The people,” Johns-Cole said. “I’ve met many wonderful people over the last four years — members, business owners and community leaders, who are all passionate about making Zionsville and Indiana a great place to live and do business.”

Johns-Cole, a Zionsville resident, is leaving the chamber to become state director of Indiana 211, a nonprofit dedicated to providing the 2-1-1 information and referral services for Indiana. Many Hoosiers turn to 2-1-1, whether it be for financial, domestic, health or disaster-related information and support. Johns-Cole’s final day at the chamber will be Sept. 30. She starts Oct. 3 at IN211.

“Julie is sorely going to be missed,” Zionsville Chamber President Kris Patel said. “She moved the chamber to new heights which have never been seen before.”

Patel praised Johns-Cole’s work ethic and inspiring leadership since she took over in June 2012.

“She was instrumental not only to the chamber but also the Town of Zionsville and the community,” Patel said. “We plan on continuing the great work and expanding the role the chamber plays in the community and economic development.”

Diane Schultz will serve as interim executive director. Patel said the chamber plans to have a new executive director by January.

“We’ve accomplished so much over the past four years, it’s difficult to name one thing,” Johns-Cole said. “We’ve added several successful new events, member benefits and services, developed new marketing materials and renewed our focus on economic development and business advocacy. This has resulted in a tremendous increase in member engagement, membership growth, record attendance at events, and a more visible presence in Zionsville. We now represent nearly 450 businesses and organizations, and the chamber continues to be committed to maintaining a pro-business climate where our businesses can thrive.”

Johns-Cole will be responsible for strategic and organizational planning, advocacy, fund development and management duties for the partnership. In additional, she will provide organizational support to the eight 2-1-1 centers throughout the state.

“I’m excited for this new challenge, the opportunity to meet new people, strengthen IN211’s existing partnerships and, most importantly, serve those in need,” Johns-Cole said.
